Session 9

Head and Neck Posture

The exercises we use here are Mariano Racobado's “6x6” (6 exercises 6 times a day) that engage the head and neck muscles for better support. One of the reasons why we do these exercises at this session is that by now, most of you will have a much higher compliance of tongue elevation and lip seal (meaning a higher percentage), having done therapy for roughly 2+ months.  It is now a better time to focus on head and neck posture because the weight of the tongue tipping the head forward, along with open lip posture, should not be as present.

We do these exercises to engage these muscles, and if possible do them 6 times a day. They are small exercises and you won't feel like you're engaging many muscles, but you in fact, are. So higher repetitions would be beneficial if possible.

This is a nice change of pace after the intensive feeling of the learning phase. You will work on these 6x6 for the next two weeks.

Passive exercise:

Reminder spot for 30 minutes a day (with elastic)

Remember to sit up nice and straight, keep the whole tongue filling the roof of the mouth, and teeth slightly apart.
